  • Burning Shoulder, Anyone?

Blimey. Never realised my tattoo would spend half its time burning. It's like having a friggin' hot poker pressed to my back every now and then. So bloody worth it, though. Definitely want another one at some point; I'm thinking a Heartagram somewhere. Fairly intricate one, preferably.

Not looking forward to this scabbing over, though... it will look awful and apparently they itch like hell. Great. Ah well, I get to keep this on my body for life: sorted! ;)

  • Tattoo

Well... this is it. I've booked myself in for an appointment at the local tattoo parlour for 11am tomorrow. No backing out, now! To be honest, the sole reason I'd do that is that the prospect of how painful it might be is a bit daunting. But if you want body art you have to put up with that side of it, after all. I mean, what's the point in using numbing creams or injections? They wear off quickly, the pain hits you tenfold after it's worn off, and they're just a general nuisance. I've tried to guess at how long my design will take to finish, and I reckon it should be in the region of 2-3 hours.

There's really not much detail needed at all for the outline; it's not especially intricate. The thing I think will take up a lot of time is the shading. It's a cat, which I want fully black except its purple tabby pattern, yellow eyes and red claw marks. That should take a while to sort out. Great.

Left shoulderblade's the location; painful, I'd imagine, but certainly nothing on having one on top of my foot, or on my elbow.

Besides, it's all part of the process.

Although as you've probably gathered, I'm absolutely shitting myself over it and am definitely going to need someone to shout "MAN UP!" at me when the time comes.

    So excited, though!

  • Thin Lizzy

Wow. Went to see Thin Lizzy last night and they were absolutely amazing. I was a bit sceptical whether they'd be decent without Phil Lynott as the front-man, but the guy they'd re-formed with sounded a lot like him, and yet he made the songs his own at the same time. That takes a lot of skill. Everyone on our tier was going mad when the well-known songs came on. They did some great ones; The Boys Are Back In Town, Rosalie, Dancing In The Moonlight, The Rocker, Whiskey In The Jar... that's just a handful but you get the point. happy

Life is good at the moment. Can't really fault it! The only thing I can really complain about is the fact that P is so far away. It does get a little depressing knowing that I can't just wander down the road or get on a cheap train for an hour to see him. But it doesn't really affect our relationship all that much - we're too strong for a little thing like that to damage it.

Having to read Rousseau's The Social Contract by either tomorrow or Tuesday... not sure which but I bet it'll be one of the two. It's an interesting little book though, so it's not that much of a chore, really. Although being told I have to read something does always make it a little harder to do, I've gotta admit. Oh well - it could be a hell of a lot worse. I could be a Chemistry student. I feel so bloody sorry for them - the workload is actually inhuman!

Anyway, I'd better get cracking with this book once I've booked train tickets to get home the weekend after next and checked Facebook.

    Laters!

  • Hello, York

Blimey... first week back at uni and the only thing I've actually had to do is hand in the 4 essays which nearly killed me over the holidays. I think there may be some background reading to do, but other than that, nothing. Looking forward to going back home again for a long weekend, though. It's massively soon to be leaving again, but it's because there's a by-election in my constituency on Thursday because of Phil Woolas being a rat and getting himself kicked out of Parliament. Serves the smarmy old git right, to be honest. He's certainly embarrassed the Labour Party, anyway.

I'm also going seeing Thin Lizzy on Saturday. Can't wait! I mean, okay they won't be even half as good minus Phil Lynott (whole lotta Phils today, eh?), but what the hell. They'll still be brilliant. Besides, I love live music so much I'd be excited enough if it was just a tribute band (my dad said that this is basically a tribute band, seeing as there's no Lynott laughing).

Oh and meeting dad for a drink - probably on Friday but could be Thurs. That should be nice, seeing as I haven't actually seen him since Christmas day. :)

Anyhow... I can't be bothered writing anything more... hehe.

  • Hogmoney/ Hogmanay

What a brilliant experience! Went to Edinburgh for 6 days, spent 3 of them collecting for charities (KidsCan on the 1st day, Cancer Research UK on the other 2), and then we got free entry into the street party on New Year's Eve. Collecting really is difficult when it's as cold as Edinburgh gets - it's certainly not an easy ride to get the street party ticket. To be honest, my main reasons for going were to see P, collect for charity and meet new people. The street party was just a really good bonus. I can see why P loves Rag so much, though. It really is an amazing thing to do. You feel amazing about what you're doing for all those people; it does make a difference in the long run. It's so nice when someone says something like "That charity helped my [mum/dad/brother/mate... varies]" or similar. And just... the whole thing's great.

Sleeping on the floor in a church hall wasn't as bad as it sounded either; we ended up with our own room and everything, which was a nice surprise. I did actually have quite a bad argument with P on New Year's Eve, but we were fine in the end. We always are! In fact, for once the arguing seems to have made us even closer (if that's possible). We talked it out the next day, more or less found out what was at the root of it, and both felt a hell of a lot better for it.

I'll definitely be doing Hog again, and I'm thinking of going to Loot in April. Not to mention the collection in August at the Fringe Festival. Edinburgh again! I really want a weekend in Edinburgh so we can have a look at all the pubs... they're absolutely brilliant! My favourites were Frankenstein's (massively themed) and the Black Bull (really cool rock pub, if a little pricey). I'll have to explore when we go again for the weekend and try to find even better ones.

These essays are amazingly stressful... I'm just over half-way through my 1st one (and I have 4). It's such a headache! I've got an extremely detailed plan for the 2nd one, not really even started on the plans for 3 and 4. Shit.

Although it was consolation that a guy at uni, F, hasn't actually started his either. Well.. he's 'barely finished' one, but apart from that he has 4 others (must be because he's on a joint degree with another subject).

Anyway... I'm going to finish this essay off - it'll be the usual scenario. Once I finish one of them, I'll feel tonnes better and find it much easier to push myself to sort out the remaining 3 essays. One achievement always gives me the focus to aim for more. It's a good job I've been training myself since high school, really. I was writing in the style of a uni student back in college, really. Just not quite as skilled.

    happy
